As an artist who is constantly evolving and growing my practice, the start of a new year always presents exciting possibilities…
The first opportunity I’ve been presented with this year came very early – on the 3rd January to be precise! As someone who is very connected with nature and the living world around me, never a day goes past without me feeling anxious about climate change and concerned about the damage being wreaked on our planet by the human race. As an individual, I often feel powerless to make any sort of impact on decisions taken by our governments around the world… but as an artist with a fairly large following on social media, I am privileged to have a platform to reach people and help raise awareness of the crisis we are all facing.
The only way I can do this is to use my art to help people reconnect with nature, with all the beauty and solace it offers in an ever more hostile environment. I was honoured to be involved in a three way Instagram collaboration with two wonderful organisations – Rainforest Alliance and UN Biodiversity – which featured some cyanotype artwork I made on boidegradeable teabags. We can all play a part in preserving the beauty of our planet when we shop for groceries, by ensuring we choose sustainable products like these Rainforest Alliance certified teabags – look out for the little tree frog seal on the tags and/or packaging!
